The National Cinema Museum participates in the EFA Young Audience Award 2021

Partner of 38 Countries will take part in the event which will take place in hybrid form

Even in difficult times like these, with cinemas closed in many countries, the EFA Young Audience Award invites 12-14 year olds from all over Europe to be part of the international jury, to watch the three nominated films and to vote for the winner of the Young Audience Award 2021

PINOCCHIO by Matteo Garrone Italy / France (our REVIEW) But here's what MyMovies says about this timeless fairy tale: “There is a devoted care in finding the right faces, in the scenarios that anyone who has read Pinocchio has imagined, in the details of the costumes, of makeup (impressive is the wood with which the child is built), of handcrafted special effects, as they had been there The story of the tales, and used very sparingly, or only when narratively necessary.”

THE CROSSING | THE FLIGHT ACROSS THE BORDER by JohanneHelgeland Norway is a war film aimed at young people whose main characters are children. The Crossing, produced by Cornelia Boysen for the Maipo Film company and distributed by Nordisk Film Distribusjon, is made by the Norwegian director Johanne Helgeland. The plot of this film takes place in 1942 during the German occupation in Norway.

WOLFWALKERS The Tomm Moore & Ross Stewart Ireland / Luxembourg, third of a trilogy tells us about Ireland in 1650, e Lord Protector (Oliver Cromwell, but it is never called that) has ordered the uprooting of the forest that borders the village of Kilkenny, with the aim of occupying and consuming the territory. To exterminate the last wolf pack that prevents the operation, the hunter Bill Goodfellowe comes from England, carrying her teenage daughter Robyn. Eager to escape from a hostile reality, where the children are forced to work in the scullery and herself, the little girl ventures into the woods: thus he runs into Mebh, wild native who at night becomes a wolf, and discovers the world of the Wolfwalkers (legendary figures, half men and half wolves), becoming what his father has the task of destroying.

Also this year the nomination procedure took place in two phases: an international committee composed of EFA Board member Graziella Bildesheim (producer / Italy) and the experts Levan Dvali (Taoba International Youth Film Festival/Georgia), Nicola Jones (GoldenerSpatz/Germania), DimitrisSpyrou (Olympia Children’s Film Festival/Grecia) e AnnelotTijs (Eye Film Institute / Netherlands) has pre-selected 8 film. A jury of boys among the 13 e i 14 years that had participated in the last edition of the YAA – Matteo (Italy), Martha (Croatia), Anissa (UK), Sophia (Poland) and Vasileios (Greece) he then saw these 8 film and decreed the three nominations.

The three nominated films will be screened by juries of youngsters among the 12 e i 14 years in 38 countries all over Europe and beyond even in AUSTRALIA, GEORGIA, GREENLAND, RUSSIA, SWITZERLAND, TURKEY and UNITED KINGDOM

In all these countries, the EFA Young Audience Award offers young participants the opportunity to discover high-quality European films at the cinema - in theaters, wherever possible, or online. Under the guidance of expert cinema teachers they will be invited to discuss, exchange views, and relate to their peers across Europe, experience that many of them will do for the first time: Europe will no longer be an abstract entity but a concrete experience!

And the jury will be the young audience who will vote to decide the winning film which will be announced with an awards ceremony on 25 April, conducted by the former juror of the EFA YAA, Ivana Noa (Belgium).

The award ceremony will be streamed live on yaa.europeanfilmawards.eu, the site dedicated to the event that collects all the information about the nominated films and the participating cities.

The EFA Young Audience Award is organized and promoted by the European Film Academy and EFA Productions with the support of MitteldeutscheMedienförderung (MDM). Every single Young Audience Film Day is organized with the support of the respective national partners (the complete list is available here). The National Cinema Museum confirms its participation in the EFA Young Audience Award again this year 2021 and invites kids aged between 12 e 14 years to be part, together with their European peers, of the international jury that will decide on Sunday 25 April the Best European Film for Children 2021.

This edition involving ben 38 countries will take place online. The young jurors will be able to watch the three selected films in streaming from 21 al 24 April 2021 and participate in meetings on zoom, activities and discussions with industry experts and guests.

In Italy, the event is organized not only by the National Cinema Museum of Turin, also from the NielsStensen Cultural Foundation of Florence, Alice nella Città in agreement with the Cinema Foundation for Rome, Genoa School Cinema Circuit.
