Synopsis: The Second Life, film directed by Vito Palmieri, tells Anna's story (Marianna Fontana), a young woman who hides a terrible past. When he moves to a small provincial town, Anna rediscovers a daily routine in the small local community: start to work, walk freely through the alleys, makes new acquaintances, like Antonio (Giovanni Anzaldo), introverted man, but very sweet, to whom he becomes emotionally attached.

His dark past, But, seems to haunt her, as well as the judgment of others, that – unlike sentences and sentences – she seems to be forced to endure for life.

Review:

“A second chance should be given to everyone ”

“The first step towards redemption is paying the price for your actions."

Prison should have a dual function: afflictive and rehabilitative for anyone guilty of a criminal act; but an ex-convict is rarely welcomed in society, indeed he is banned, pushing him again to commit criminal acts even just to survive

We care little about what a prisoner feels and thinks once he has served his just sentence.

Prejudice and feelings of guilt torment the soul of an ex-convict unable to adapt to a world that has changed during his years in prison.

#Lasecondavita by Vito Palmieri addresses this delicate and complex theme by telling us about Anna's second life or, if you prefer, her second chance, a young woman who after serving eight years in prison for a horrendous crime, struggles to reintegrate into society.

Anna is a woman bent by guilt, haunted by prejudice and hostility on the part of those who discover her past.

When he moves to a small town, hired as a library employee, he deludes himself that he can start again by hiding his tragic past.

But one cannot escape from the past nor can one avoid confrontation with one's conscience.

Marianna Fontana gives us an intense interpretation, credible, suffering by putting himself in Anna's shoes, sharing his inner torment with the viewer.

We can't start again, if you don't make peace with your past, also accepting the darkest side of one's nature.

Vito Palmieri in his third feature film, demonstrates that he has achieved directorial maturity and artistic and human sensitivity by constructing a painful and introspective story without ever falling into pietism and/or rhetoric, giving voice and visibility to the difficulties experienced by ex-prisoners upon "returning" to society.

#Lasecondavita reveals the hypocrisy of "good people" towards the outcasts / last, making them still feel like "criminals" despite having served their sentence or even worse by blackmailing them like Marco will do (an excellent jewellery) revealing himself to be a false and annoying opportunist.

Anna would like to feel "right", accepted and even loved when she meets the introverted blacksmith Antonio, he too is a restless soul and not inclined to accept the rules of the community.

The spontaneous bond that binds these two souls will have to go through the difficult and necessary moment of truth on Anna's part, so that love also takes on a salvific and liberating value.

The Fontana-Anzaldo couple works and conquers the viewer, staging a relationship based on silences and glances rather than dialogues.

In conclusion #lasecondavita is a harsh vision, anguished, suffering that doesn't give discounts like real life is, but highlighting how sharing the truth and admitting one's fragility and limits are the only true way to aspire to a second life as a free and peaceful person.
