Pinocchio as he sees Matteo Garrone: review of Marina fearful

In Italian cinemas from 19 December, Pinocchio is the last, anticipated film by Matteo Garrone. Undertaking anything but easy, the present. Especially because it must first come to terms with what has been produced in the past (as well as with both the book by Carlo Collodi). E se, until today, the famous The Adventures of Pinocchio by Luigi Comencini (1972) it is among the best film adaptations, here is that the same Garrone was inspired just carry it in his latest work.

The story that we all know: the carpenter Geppetto (here played by Roberto Benigni) created by a piece of wood a puppet. The puppet takes life soon. Geppetto gives him the name of Pinocchio and decides to raise him as a son. The Marionette, however, It is rather undisciplined, it will drive away in a series of mishaps that always turn away from the house and from his father.

As for this latest film by Garrone, what catches the eye immediately is the excellent graphic creation, complete with a carefully chosen characters and made up and a more than convincing reconstruction of the environment. Abiding in all respects to the original Collodi novel, Garrone takes, sometimes, even the original lines, as written in the book, trying to be as faithful as possible to what originally made.

and yet, this operation, It failed completely. Especially because this return slavishly events has meant that the entire feature missing almost blood, proves altogether flat and devoid of mordant. A little, therefore, serving refined and tricks it when a special effects. Little use characters with a considerable thickness (first among all, Geppetto, along with Jiminy Cricket and Pinocchio schoolteacher). This whole series of elements, inserted into a frame made almost on autopilot, not enough to save the whole job. A job that, anyhow, has a more than convincing Roberto Benigni. Especially if we think of when we saw him, Years ago, precisely in the lively puppet clothes.
