University students across Europe have chosen ANATOMY OF A FALL by Justine Triet, winner of this year's European University Film Award
European Film Academy and Filmfest Hamburg announced it during an official reception for the nominees of the European Film Awards 2023, on the eve of the festive gala on Saturday 9 December at the Berlin Arena.
Since October, the five nominated films, based on selections from feature films and documentaries 2023 of the European Film Awards, have been seen and discussed in 24 university in 25 countries before each institution selected its favorite film. At the beginning of December, a student representative from each university attended a meeting in Hamburg to decide the overall winner.

The jury thus justified its decision: “In a subversive deconstruction of courtroom dramas, Triet puts both the truth and its protagonist Sandra on trial. Artifice and what can be perceived as truth are urgent and contemporary issues that affect everyone, especially today's impressionable youth with the dangers of social media. Everything can be decontextualized, also from private conversations and the intimacy of a relationship. In the digital age characterized by so many conflicting “truths”., Triet masterfully shows how anyone can be made blind.".
The aim of this initiative by the European Film Academy and Filmfest Hamburg is to engage younger audiences, spread the European idea and transport the spirit of European cinema to an audience of university students. It will also support cinema distribution, cinematographic education and the culture of debate.
