La Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced the Golden Globe Awards nominees for the 78th edition.

The 78 ° Golden Globe will take place on 28 February, coast to coast from 17:00 all 20:00 PT / 8-11 ET on the NBC broadcaster. The event will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who will return for the fourth time, after the three years 2013 – 2015. Fey and Poehler will share tasks from their respective cities, with Fey on the east coast and Poehler on the west coast. Fey will be live from the Rainbow Room in New York, Poehler will be live from the Beverly Hilton, a Beverly Hills, reaching candidates, from various locations around the world.

In addition to the categories announced, i Golden Globe 2021 reward Jane Fonda with Cecil B.. deMille Award e Norman Lear con il Carol Burnett Award. Lear will be the third recipient of the Carol Burnett Award, recently created, which rewards for contributions to television.

As previously announced, Satchel e Jackson Lee, sons of director and three-time Golden Globe nominee Spike Lee and producer and philanthropist Tonya Lewis Lee, they will serve as ambassadors of the Golden Globe 2021.

As for the movies, in the drama category David Fincher director of Mank with six nominations got the most nominations, seguito da The Trial Of The Chicago 7 (five) e The Father, Nomadland and Promising Young Woman (all and with four). The most nominated series was The Crown (be), with Schitt's Creek just behind with five nominations.

Netflix was the most successful movie distributor, receiving 22 nomination (Besides 20 for the TV section). Amazon seconded with seven nominations, followed by Focus, Searchlight, Sony and Disney (all with five).

Three women entered the shortlist of five for best director: Regina King, Chloé Zhao ed Emerald Fennell (along with David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin).

It is the first time that more than one female director has been nominated at the same time and so now the total number of women nominated in the category is eight..
