#TERTIOMILLENNIO restarts digitally

from 23 February to 2 March the XXIV edition of the TMFF, the festival of intercultural and interreligious dialogue organized by the Fondazione Ente dello Spettacolo will take place for the first time in an exclusively digital form on MYmovies.it.

Based on a quote from the poet Friedrich Hölderlin, the historic festival of the Foundation - born in 1997 at the behest of Pope John Paul II - proposes a reading of current events starting from "what saves", seeking in contemporary filmography not the lament of the present but ideas for recovery, of salvation, for individuals and communities.

«A title that refers to Dante Alighieri on the 700th anniversary of his death, starting from the idea of rebirth, which today becomes an invitation to look beyond the pandemic, to build a broad horizon that goes beyond, understanding it, the experience of loss, of individual and social laceration, of the crisis " declare Marina Sanna and Gianluca Arnone, artistic directors of the festival. “Horizon - they continue - designed with a selection of films from all over the world, 7 national previews and an important showcase for the young authors of short films in the competition dedicated to them ".

Mons. Davide Milani, president of the Ente dello Spettacolo Foundation, highlights the significance of the new edition of the festival: "Tertio Millennio Film Fest wants to show the beginning of a path that runs along the direction from which the gift of Salvation comes. The plurality of artistic views on reality that the directors of the sixteen works in competition with the variety of experiences that narrate - he continues - in an edition that, despite the digital dimension, it does not fail to be an opportunity for meeting and comparison, as per the festival tradition. "

The competition of feature films and short films

The 8 feature films in competition are world premieres, European and Italian, from different countries, from the Dominican Republic to Lapland via Lesotho and Bulgaria, they offer a panorama of distant stories that have in common the desire for a "new life" that can no longer wait to be lived. A selection that questions our sensitivity, probing universal and profound themes: the anxieties of adolescents (Adoration by Fabrice du Weltz), the community crisis (The Last Ones, di Veiko Õunpuu), the relationship between memory and oblivion (Oylem, di Arthur Borgnis), the eruption of the miracle (Liborio, by Nino Martínez Sosa), the inviolability of the Sacred (This is not a Burial, It’s a Resurrection, of Note Jeremiah Moses), the conflict between individual aspirations and emotional ties (German Lessons, at Pavel G. Vesnakov), the acceptance of mourning (The Fisherman’s Daughter, in Ismail Safarali), the need for true justice (Unguarded, Simonetta d’Italia-Wiener), as described in the presentation sheets and in the catalog.

The Juries

To evaluate the feature films, as per tradition, a jury expression of all the religious communities involved in the festival - Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, muslim, Buddhist and Hindu - which thus becomes a place for interreligious dialogue and discussion on common themes, moving from different and sometimes diametrically opposed points of view. The director will preside over it, actor and screenwriter Giulio Base, who approaches this role «with the greatest sense of responsibility possible and obviously with extreme attention to the films that will be presented, listening carefully to the jurors of the splendid interreligious group ".

Laura Delli Colli, President of the Cinema for Rome Foundation and of the SNGCI, instead it will guide the young exponents of the religious communities who will evaluate the 8 short films in competition. «In the small films that our Jury is called to judge there are many questions, but a possible answer is hidden in everyone - said Laura Delli Colli - because what saves can be hope, the elaboration of a bereavement. Or even just a dream, one of those wonderful fantasies that cinema lives on anyway, even without a screen on ".

The winners are awarded the Tertio Millennium prize, represented by a plaque made and donated by the goldsmith sculptor Lucio Minigrilli.

I temi

Also in this new digital guise, TMFF does not lose its nature of listening and dialogue, of in-depth analysis of the themes proposed and treated by the films, and it does so by comparing it with the eyes of professionals, exponents of the world of the Church, of culture, of communication to offer the public a new interpretation and more opportunities for reflection. Dialogue characterized the work of the interreligious table and the contributions present in the catalog demonstrate this.
