How essential meeting place for film fans from Germany and abroad, Diagonal present around the 100 feature films, documentaries, short films, Austrian animated films and experimental films and award the most prestigious film awards in Austria. At the center of the festival, The competition is also the setting for the world premieres and previews for Austria after in famous international festivals presentations. Furthermore, An annual retrospective trace a complete picture of the status quo in the national cinema.

The Diagonale'20 dedicated to Jessica Hausner and his prolific career section Zur Person. Starting from his latest film Little Joe, that was the only Austrian contribution to the prestigious competition of the Cannes Film Festival in 2019, Diagonale'20 will present the first comprehensive retrospective of Jessica Hausner Austria. Flanked by conversations, insights and debates, The staff also aims to illustrate how the Hausner conceive the very way of making films.

The trailer of the Diagonale'20 will be realized by the video artist Jennifer Mattes, who will present his personal exhibition, “The Bars of Atlantis”, at the Kunsthaus Graz in conjunction with the festival. During the Year of Culture of Graz 2020, the Diagonal, The Filmarchiv Austria, the Österreichisches Filmmuseum and the ORF archive develop the slogans "cities and desire" in the special retrospectives.
