The Constitution - Two unusual love stories Rajko Grlic, or the universal theme of integration

In Italian cinemas from 5 April, The Constitution – Due insolite Storie d’Amore It is the last, award-winning film by Rajko Grlic and distributed in Italy by Cinema Club Internazionale.

Vjeko is a Croatian teacher of middle-aged, after the death of comrade, He lives with his seriously ill father. The man usually wears women's clothes, and then leave, at night, a drink in a local coffee shop. One evening, But, It is beaten up by a group of thugs who hate homosexuals. To help him will be his neighbor, Croatian nurse, who married a Serb policeman. Between the two men, precisely because of their different nationalities, initially not run bad blood. The things, however, will change when the professor will help close to learn by heart the Constitution, in order to pass an important exam at work.

With an elliptical structure, that sees, in opening and closing of the film, the same framing through the panes of a window of the house Vjeko, The Constitution - set in a historical period of fundamental importance for the countries of former Yugoslavia - can tell us about a delicate and thorny issue as that of integration - whether we speak of the integration of Serbs in Croatia, that homosexuals within a society still not really ready to change - with grace and even with a fair dose of humor, avoiding - despite the high risk when dealing with such topics - all dangerous rhetoric and unnecessary gooders.

Within a script that works (that, wanting to analyze it in detail, maybe only flaw of too many important events that converge on closing) and with a cast of actors who know how to make their perfectly faceted characters, every single detail is not left to chance. Even the convincing (e, in his own way, funny) subplot sees a dangerous unbalanced spread around the streets of Zagreb sausages with nails inside, in order to hurt the dogs.

Despite being set, therefore, at a precise moment in history, The Constitution, to the topics, It can be classified in effect as a "universal" film. It is a story, that here staging, that could happen at any time, albeit with its variants due. The end result is a comedy with a bitter aftertaste, enjoyable and successful, perfectly in line with the Eastern European cinema, that always gives us nice surprises.
