The 32nd Trieste Film Festival relaunches and continues in theaters in June, to the Miela Theater. in fact, alongside the online formula imposed by the Covid-19 health emergency at the beginning of the year, has chosen from the outset to carry out a part of the Festival for in-person programming and for two weekends, now bringing a tribute to two great authors who recently passed away, to Balkan cinema on the anniversary of the breakup of the Yugoslav federation, and the TSFF of the Little ones, cinema review dedicated to the youngest spectators of the Festival

"After the great success of the online edition of the Trieste Film Festival in January" say the artistic directors Fabrizio Grosoli and Nicoletta Romeo «We are now very happy to be back in the theater with special film screenings and the TSFF section of the Piccoli, programming dedicated to children and young people who have collected a lot of affection over the years. For us it is a good sign of hope for the world of cinema and entertainment in general. "

The 4 June the Festival remembers two authors who recently passed away with as many special events, giving way to review on the big screen OSTRE WATCHED TRAINS di Jiří Menzel (Closely guarded trains, CS, 1966, b-n, 89’, v.o. Czech, sott. it.) one of the most important works of Nová vlna that mixes the grotesque and the dramatic, based on the short novel of the same name by Bohumil Hrabal, Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 1967. And also WINTER NIGHT'S DREAM by Goran Paskaljevic (A midwinter night's dream, SERB, 2004, col., 95’, v.o. everything, sott. it.), former Special Jury Prize at the San Sebastian festival in 2004 and Special Jury Prize at the Trieste Film Festival in 2005: from the disintegration of the Yugoslav country the particular bond that is created between three people on the margins of society, opposed by war events and forced together under the same roof.

As part of the memory of the thirtieth anniversary of the Balkan wars (1991/2021) already proposed in January, the 4 e 5 June an ideal continuation of the focus is proposed with some interesting and original titles from the last thirty years. 1991-2021: WAR, TRAUMA, METAPHOR. FINIS YUGOSLAVIAE will present MGM SARAJEVO (Man-God-Monster) of the SaGA collective of authors (MGM Sarajevo / The man-God-The monster, by Ismet Arnautalić, Mirsad Idrizovic, Ademir Kenović, Pierre Zalica, BIH, 1992-1994, col., 93’, v.o. Bosnian, sott. it.), production that required 2 years of work, with which we immerse ourselves in a slice of life made up of three stories that have the city of Sarajevo as a common element: the protagonists speak right from the heart of a besieged city, suffering from constrictions imposed by the war. MARBLE ASS by Želimir Žilnik (Marble butt, YU, 1995, col., 87’, v.o. Serbian - English, sott. it.) it is instead one of the most unusual films released from Europe of the last millennium, Marble Ass is a bold and positive transgender political and social drama that advocates individual creativity against macho militarism. Set in a bumpy house on the outskirts of Belgrade, the story focuses on the prostitute Merlyn, and his roommate, workmate Sanela. Their routine falls apart when Johnny, a crazed ex lover, he is disarmed by the army and returns home full of barely suppressed anger. The film received the Berlinale Teddy Award in 1995. And at the Miela Theater you will also be able to see the great Croatian hit of the 90s on the big screen HOW THE WAR BEGUN ON MY ISLAND di Vinko Brešan (How the war started on my island, HR, 1996, col., 97’, v.o. Croatian, sott. it.) which brings us into the 1991, when the Yugoslav National Army, which does not recognize the independence of Croatia, he still has all the military barracks in the country in his hands and Blaž Gajski goes to a Croatian island to bring his son home, which is located in one of these barracks. It was the debut film for the "king of black comedy" Vinko Brešan, written together with his father Ivo, well-known Croatian writer and screenwriter. Although it was born as a television movie, it was so successful with audiences that it became the most watched film in Croatia in the 90s. While the last film proposed in this section will be STATE OF THE DEAD di Živojin Pavlović, Dinko Tucakovic (The land of the dead, YU, 1998-2000, col., 101′, v.o. everything, sott. it.). We are in Yugoslavia, 1990s and Slovenian sergeant major Janez Kranjc, all his life devoted to the Yugoslav cause, he moves to Belgrade with his Macedonian wife, two twins of 10 years and a son of 20, although the Slovenes offer him a higher military rank in order to make him stay. Janez in Belgrade however will realize that he is now just another foreigner in what he believed was still his country..
