As for Maybe he will know how to see on RAYPLAY from 21 May. It is a sentimental comedy that tells the story of Alma, Jean and Sebastian, three brothers, very close together, than from Paris, cities where they live safely, albeit bizarre, upper middle class environment of the Russian Orthodox mother of faith, they find themselves thrown into Carlo's arms, Italian father, absent, nonconformist and completely broke, who has no idea how to look after himself, let alone the children. During a Christmas holiday spent in a beach house with Carlo and his collaborator Benedetta, in a moment of suspension from their real lives, the knots of family tensions come to a head. Carlo discovers the dark aspects of his ex-wife and proves to his children that he is an unreliable father, but incredibly charismatic and – despite the challenges and daily tensions – little Alma continues to believe firmly that one day, Maybe, his family may return to join as before.

Passed to the last Locarno Film Festival where he was successful with this film in some autobiographical ways Scamarcio distances himself from the stereotype of Belloccio evola on interpretive shores that give him the right recognition of an actor who worked on the character. For this reason, we thank him for finally taking off, maybe towards a less certain future, but precisely for this reason appreciable.

DIRECTOR'S NOTES

Maybe it's based on memories and nostalgia and looks at the concept of family, to the fantasies about the perfect family that we pursue, especially as children.

The film is about imperfect adults, trying to do their best, struggling between life and feelings. Adults are seen through the eyes of three little brothers, all characterized by very different personalities, who try to watch over each other. As a mother of three, it always amazes me to see how the little ones adapt to situations and the ways in which they react to external events. Some of them fit well, others instead resist, remaining anchored to their vision of things. The constant that always seems to keep them together is the mutual sense of belonging.

Through a long casting process, we looked for three bilingual children, that managed to work as a team, rather than as individual characters. That's why they spent a lot of time together, just to familiarize and become familiar with each other. Speak the same language, having the same accent and having similar gestures was very important. The auditions of the children were followed by those of the adults and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with extremely talented actors such as Riccardo Scamarcio, Alba Rohrwacher e Céline Salette. The interaction between them was crucial to being able to convey the complexity of the relationships. The main location of the film is the Sabaudia promenade, to which I am very attached. The first image that came to my mind when I conceived the film was the Sabaudia beach. This place has a special atmosphere that I wanted to pervade the whole film. Le luci, i colori, especially outside the tourist season, they are incredibly poetic. I am attracted to the mixture of melancholy and possibility that a seaside resort offers once the tourists have left. My goal was to try to film all of this by mixing hand and still footage, in order to blend the liveliness of children with the static nature of the environment.
