The Month of Documentary VI edition. – Audience Award to The CAVE

The prize was awarded on the basis of votes cast within the projections around Italy in the VI edition. of The Month of the Documentary film The Cave Feras Fayyad.

The director Feras Fayyad (already nominated for Last Men in Aleppo) returns to his hometown to pursue a the team of doctors who tirelessly care for the victims in an underground hospital while fighting sexism systemic. The documentary takes the viewer on an underground landscape similar to the post-apocalyptic world of Mad Max (1979), a network of secret tunnels under Ghouta, near Damascus. Filmed over the past two years in very difficult conditions, the film offers an extraordinarily powerful perspective on the dramatic events of Syria which are the basis of contemporary migration.

The film was premiered in Italy at the Festival dei Popoli and abroad at the Toronto Film Festival (Audience Award), the British Film Institute's London Film Festival and the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam.

The film will be repeated the next day 30 January at the Casa del Cinema in Rome.

The sixth edition of the Month of the documentary took place from 28 November to 27 January at the Casa del Cinema in Rome and then in tour to Italy.

Two titles presented Italian: It is the dream of Giovanni Cioni, premiered at the Festival dei Popoli, one of the oldest festivals dedicated to documentary film, and Valentina A Spring Spring, the film that represented Italy in the most important international festivals, as HotDocs, DoK Leipzig, ZagrebDox.

In addition there are two international documentaries both nominated for Oscars: The Cave di Feras Fayyad e One Child Nation di Nanfu Wang e Jialing Zhang.
