Starts Saturday 26 January, the sixth edition of Cinema at the MAXXI with EXTRA DOC

The exhibition will run until 14 in April as part of CityFest, The program of cultural events of the Fondazione Cinema per Roma led by Laura Delli Colli, General Director Francesca Via, produced by MAXXI - National Museum of XXI Century Arts, chaired by Giovanna Melandri, and Alice in direct city Fabia Bettini and Gianluca Giannelli.

The program of the sixth edition is curated by Mario Sesti. Cinema at the MAXXI has consolidated over the years as one of the most important and anticipated events of the cultural landscape of the Capital, registering an extraordinary interest from the public: concocted an event around the research and experimentation, that combine the features of the festival, the festival and the film club, with numerous activities ranging from film lining museum exhibitions to exclusive previews of movies, documentaries, TV series, meetings with authors and actors to special events, at a cost of five euro entry.

The sixth edition of Cinema at the MAXXI opens with a significant innovation, previewing the first episode of The Passage, new FOX television series license plate. Will come back, for the second consecutive year, Extra Doc Festival, a real competition of Italian published and unpublished documentaries that will complement an educational path with "ExtraSchool.doc". They enrich the program sections Extra Special, Extra meetings and Alice Family. Three specific sections will also be devoted to the current exhibitions at the Museum: “Low Form”, on the relationship between art and artificial intelligence, "La Strada", as a place of creativity, challenges and civil wars, and "Cinema and Photography", in relation to staff dedicated to Paolo Pellegrin.

EXTRA DOC FESTIVAL

A competition of ten Italian documentaries selected from world premieres and works that have been highlighted in major festivals. After the success of the first edition, Extra returns Doc Festival, The competition map and intercepts the best expressions of the reality cinema. Five appointments for ten Italian documentaries in competition: entries will be judged by a jury chaired by Giovanna Melandri, President of the MAXXI Foundation, accompanied by the director and screenwriter Calopresti, by Valerio Cappelli reporter, actress Cristina Donadio, from producer Nicola Giuliano and author Margaret Mazzantini. Two prizes will be awarded: the "Best Italian documentary of the year" and the best unpublished, “Extra Doc CityFest”. At the end of each screening, the authors will talk with the curator of Extra Doc Festival, Mario Sesti.

An audience of around forty members - the reading club of the Flaminia Library and representatives of other libraries, high school students selected to Alice in the city and militant young critics - will instead have the task of choosing the documentaries that will later be distributed and promoted in Rome's libraries.

EDUCATIONAL PROJECT: EXTRASCHOOL.DOC

"ExtraSchool.doc" - a project by the Fondazione Cinema per Roma in collaboration with Alice in the city thanks to the support of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture - will promote the documentary among the younger generations, proposing to high school students a series of initiatives to get closer to reality cinema. Children can, on the one hand, be members of the relevant audience of Extra Doc Festival - thus also participate in person at the screenings, in discussions and the awards competition of documentaries organized as part of Cinema at the MAXXI - the other to study issues of the proposed documentary: the works of Doc Festival Extra will indeed be made available on the platform "Class Choices", provided by Alice in the City, accompanied by fact sheets. The works will eventually be proposed again to a wider audience of boys within a minirassegna which will take place in the coming months between schools and proximity salt.

One of the most important goals of "ExtraSchool.doc" is to make available to everyone, and in particular of student generations, literacy opportunities than the language of images and sounds (cinema, audiovisual, internet culture) to whom, the current state, there are no specific teaching spaces.

TV SERIES IN COLLABORATION WITH FOX NETWORKS GROUP

Cinema at the MAXXI opens to the television series, a preview of two of the most anticipated series of the season

Five films from animation auteur to modern classics suitable for the whole family

For four Sundays in the program Alice Family - edited by Alice in the City, directed by Fabia Bettini and Gianluca Giannelli - will point to discover the modern classics that explore genres and themes dear to the public of all ages.

  • CIAK ALICE YOUNG

Back for the seventh year in a Ciak Alice Young, Ciak d'Oro born from the special monthly CIAK collaboration with ALICE IN THE CITY ', independent and autonomous section of the Rome Film Festival, that rewards films that cater to children and talk about their world.

THE Ciak Alice Young It is not only an award but has become over the years a real educational path that fits right in the educational activities that Alice has in place with the boys and students throughout the year by offering their vision and opportunities to drill comparison.

I 12 selected Italian films chosen by alice together with the drafting of Ciak are exited and output between the 1st May 2018 and the 30 April 2019, They will participate in the educational project, and will be incorporated as an additional route with cards and educational materials and study made by critics of the magazine, in the library of the web platform dedicated to schools.

In the films selected this year we find references to rebellions (Manuel, Twin Flower, The trawler children) and authenticity investigations (Zen - on thin ice); links to unsolved mysteries of fairytale (The bear tales), between cultures and social types (The dell'abbastanza Earth, Bangla); harmonies and appeals to historical moments (It seems my son, The road of Samouni, 1938 - Several). The winning film will receive a plaque during the awards ceremony of the Ciak D'Oro.
