Presented out of competition at the 75th Venice Film Festival in Venice, Monrovia, Indiana It is the last work of the famous American documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman.

If in the past the teacher had showed us aspects of life related to universities, libraries, unique neighborhoods and, more generally, large hubs, here he choose, on this occasion, a small rural town in the Midwest (Monrovia, just, in Indiana), they inhabit only 1400 citizens and in which time, on many points of view, It seems to have really stopped.

With a narrative structure that so much is going to remember the cycle of life (early childhood, when we are shown the life within a school, till death, when we attend the funeral of an elderly lady), the director fits with his usual discreet and "invisible" within this small rural community, showing - as only he can do - everyday scenes on the job within farms, the moments of purchases at the supermarket, Small town meetings, the local vet work and even the production of steaks and burgers. And here, After just two hours and twenty, Also we feel part of that small world out of time. Almost as if he knew all along.

Not afraid, Wiseman, to play with stereotypes. Not afraid to be excessive, in showing the little oddities and bizarre habits of some residents. Its camera, Unlike, looks - quiet and reserved as always - all with benevolent eyes, loving, even nostalgic, if you think that the situation like there is always less in the world, because of globalization. Frederick Wiseman, its part, He is in love with what he tells us. E, Once again, he enabled her that little, curious world until recently to him so far.

For the theme, as well as for its unique narrative structure, this precious Monrovia, Indiana It can almost be classified in law as a kind of "definitive work"; according to the same director, The best way to crown the series on contemporary American life. A work whose duration is rather limited, than the previous author's work, but that, perhaps even thanks to its particular structure self-contained, it is, probably, his work as complete. A wide open window into a world unknown to us, from which we would not get away so soon, but that, Alas, is slowly fading. But, and to, the particularity of cinema Wiseman is this: all of us, at the screen, we are all of a sudden thrown into a new world, that, very soon, we feel like it's our always.
