Nomination for OSCAR: why an Italian apt choice

The turning point of the selection committee of the Italian candidate for the Oscars towards a change towards the many balances

It is known that for the Italian candidacy of FUOCOAMMARE to the next

Oscar wore a tear within the Commission that met at ANICA with aftermath of controversy also from the Oscar winner Paolo Sorrentino that we love so much that he would have preferred a double candidacy. Fuocoammare Gianfranco Rosi in the documentary section e Indivisible by Edoardo De Angelis in the best foreign film section. We do not discuss the power of De Angelis who, however, lacks the universality of Rosi. On the other hand, Rosi's film goes beyond the documentary packaging and does justice to the outpost of Europe called Lampedusa. Why don't we forget that humanity fleeing from wars first meets Dr.. Bartolo, doctor of the island and his generous empathy that has conquered Meryl Streep and the Berlinale audience.

But which of the titles that other nations have already chosen we can say that they live up to the universal cry that Rosi launched?

There are at least six directors from Europe who can aspire to the Award and in particular from Bosnia and Herzegovina Death in Sarajevo by Danis Tanovic, already Oscar in the 2002 con No Man’s Land, from Denmark Land of Mine di Martin Zandvliet, from Georgia House of Others di Rusudan Glurjidze, gave Kosovo Home Sweet Home di Faton Bajraktari, from Romania Sieranevada by Cristi Puiu and from Russia Paradise di Andrei Konchalovsky. All films that indirectly with past stories remind us of the evil that grips humanity: war.
Instead Rosi is direct and affects everyone's conscience, here today. For all

this we say that the choice broke once and for all with the not always happy balances of which we were able.

But also from other continents we can enumerate a poker of aces and in particular from Australia the moving one Tanna di Martin Butler and Bentley Dean, Colossal from South Korea The Age of Shadows di Kim Jee-woon, Iran The Salesman in Asghar Farhadi and from Israel Sand Storm di Elite Zexer. We also thank France who preferred Frantz from Ozane, recently passed to Venice, rather Elle. Finally we could include the outsider from the Czech Republic in the list of films with the extravagant Lost in Munich by Petr Zelenka and from Japan the touching Haha to Kuraseba by Yoji Yamada. But we have to wait for the 26 January when we will know the five foreign candidates for the Oscars 2017.
