The final stages for this edition of the relaunch of World Cinematography are entirely French

The last two films in competition are French:

THE RESTLESS by JOACHIM LAFOSSE – Damien is a hyperactive father, while his wife Leïla is a quiet type and wants to enjoy the holiday. But Damien does not give up, he rests little, does the shopping, he prepares dinner in short, he runs away from something. It is a funny film about human paranoia. The protagonist is a creative person: a painter! In a fast-paced film that gives the viewer no respite, but also a history of mental distress. After several attempts, the protagonist accepts his illness and goes to hospital to give respite to his family and especially to his wife Leïla.. In fact, Damien's disease becomes the disease of the whole family, the health of their son is at stake and this is an extra boost for the protagonist.

NITRAM by JUSTIN KURZEL – The word echoes something explosive, and the film is. The true story of a young man called Nitram for his passion for fireworks. His childhood was plundered by the maternal ego that reminds him of "I am your mother, I give you birthday!"This sentence contains the essence of the tragedy that is about to unfold, after so many attempts by the mother not to admit that she is the cause of what is happening. He was orphaned of his father , after purchasing an arsenal of weapons, revenge is glimpsed in his feeble mind (but for what?) towards an elderly coppi who bought a house that he wanted so much. But the carnage has yet to begin. Its goal is a seaside leisure center. Coldly films the slaughter. From a fact that really happened in Australia in 1996 that after 25 innocent deaths, the law on the possession of weapons was revised.

We looked forward to it a Cannes Premiere the intimate rehearsal of the author by Marco Bellocchio who had a stand ovation at the end of the screening of MARX CAN WAIT - an intimate and generous look at the director's family - It starts with his brother Camillo who died in 1968. Almost fifty years later, Marco gathers all his family for a lunch. With his family he wonders about Camillo, his twin disappeared when he was alone 29 years. Brothers. The grandchildren. The sister of the girlfriend of the time. A psychiatrist. A priest. Talking to each of them, recalling those years and those facts, Marco reconstructs the pieces of the past, finally giving birth to a ghost he has had to deal with all his life. Marco Bellocchio, through his family, revives the story of his brother, without filters or modesty, almost an investigation, which reconstructs a historical era and weaves the red thread of so much of its cinema.

But let's move on to the UCR awards ceremony.

From this year Un Certain Regard returned to emerging authors and offered twenty feature films in competition. Six of them were the first films to also compete for the Chamber of Gold. The opening film was Onoda – 10 000 nights in the jungle of Arthur Harari.

Led by director and screenwriter Andrea Arnold, the jury was made up of director and screenwriter Mounia Meddour, by actress Elsa Zylberstein, by director and screenwriter Daniel Burman and Michael Covino, director and actor.

The jury commented like this “In our discussions, the two things we constantly said were: “this film is very brave” e “this movie comes from the heart”. Many of the films are very passionate and many of the films are about things that are hard to talk about. "
