Before the most beautiful cinematic event begins, we refer you to a part of it or the very popular Meetings in which polar stars of the seventh art get naked.
Four meetings are scheduled for this year. In particular, we are talking about the meeting with Zhang Ziyi, Sylvester Stallone, Alain Delon and Nicolas Winding Refn. Four Rendez-vous with as many artists will be held at the Buñuel Theater, to replace the former cinema lesson. Four master classes with directors, actresses and actors invited to talk about their work and career, during the Rendez-vous open to all festival goers.
Saturday 18 May at 16:00 NICOLAS WINDING REFN – A moderated conversation by Philippe Rouyer (film critic of Positif and on Le Cercle on Canal +).
The Danish director who won the Cannes Best Director Award for Drive in 2011, he returned to the Official Selection this year. He will present two episodes of his series produced by Amazon Too Old to Die Young. More than a director, he is also a true movie lover, having created the ByNWR.com website, by combining a streaming platform for restored films and an online music magazine, literature and illustration.
Nicolas Winding Refn will talk about his career, of his choices and the various ways of being a director when working for a film in the cinema, a series, with a classic manufacturer or platform.
Sunday 19 May at 11 ALAIN DELON – A conversation moderated by Samuel Blumenfeld (journalist at Le Monde).
After Jeanne Moreau, Woody Allen, Bernardo Bertolucci, Jane Fonda, Clint Eastwood, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Manoel de Oliveira, Agnès Varda e Jean-Pierre Léaud, the Cannes Film Festival will give a golden palm to the legendary actor in Luchino Visconti's Il Gattopardo (Palme d'Or in 1963). The ceremony will take place on Sunday 19 May at 18:30. That same morning Alain Delon will be on stage at the Buñuel Theater to discuss with Samuel Blumenfeld, who wrote a remarkable series of articles about the actor during the summer of 2018. In the evening, Alain Delon will present a restored print of Joseph Losey's film Mr. Klein in the Debussy auditorium.
Wednesday 22 May at 16:30 – A moderated conversation by Yves Montmayeur (historian and director).
The 20-year career of the Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi began with her first appearance on the screen in the film The Road Home by Zhang Yimou before arriving in Cannes the following year with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon di Ang Lee. since then, she often returned to the Croisette, as a member of the jury (Competition or Un Certain Regard) or for important films like the 2046 at Wong Kar-wai o House of Flying Daggers in Zhang Yimou. She was nominated for a Golden Globes and BAFTA awards for her performance in Memoirs of a geisha by Rob Marshall and worked again with Wong Kar-wai on 2013 with The Grandmaster for which he won twelve awards.
Friday 24 May at 16:00 SYLVESTER STALLONE – A conversation moderated by Didier Allouch (Journalist, Correspondent of the Festival de Cannes in Los Angeles).
Sylvester Stallone gave us a beautiful surprise when he chose to return to Cannes to announce the autumn version of Rambo V: Last Blood. He will present the first images of the film on stage on Friday 24 May at 22:30, before showing a restored 4K print by Rambo: First Blood. The film was restored frame by frame in accordance with the artistic choices of the original production.
Con Rocky, was sent to the universe of film legends. An actor but also a screenwriter and director – his first film was Paradise Alley in 1978 – Sylvester Stallone will offer a second gift to festival goers with this meeting that will allow him to explore his rich career that has been long, full of cult films and lesser-known works, demonstrating the fact that he is an artist who does not always correspond to his own image.
