Bohemian Rhapsody – reviews Marina fearful: Freddie lives for her fans thanks to Bryan Singer

In Italian cinemas from 29 November, Bohemian Rhapsody It is the last, highly anticipated work of director Bryan Singer, as well as biopic of the late Freddie Mercury, leader of the band The Queen.

This paper – produced by Brian May – It follows the English rock band known for fifteen years, its formation in 1970, to the famous Live Aid Concert of the 1985, focusing his own attention on the figure of Mercury, played for the occasion by the young Rami Malek, who, as well as having achieved a remarkable physical resemblance to the singer – with an important trick that is never fake or too artifact – It has had a long and difficult work on himself, in order to make the most of the big screen its challenging character.

Trying to avoid any dangerous rhetoric, typical of biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody opens with a nice roundup followed that sees Mercury, strictly shoulders, when, after waking up in his house, surrounded by the many cats, is about to go on stage in front of which a huge crowd of adoring fans waiting for him. Meantime, the music of Queen does the rest, plus a minuziosissimo reconstruction work – frame by frame – all movies about the historic group.

The peculiarity of a film as this is, in fact, to focus almost exclusively on the music produced by the group (memorable, about that, the sequence that shows the four intent to register in the very courageous and experimental study Bohemian Rhapsody), without stopping – ma, at the same time, treating everything properly – the private lives of the same Mercury, from his relationship with Mary Austin, the discovery of his homosexuality, until the disease.

Strong – as has already been written – a winning music, this feature offers, next to a direction at times overly virtuoso, a montage studied in minute detail. the end result is a very addictive product, among the most faithful representation of one of the icons of rock music seventies and eighties.
