The history of the Cinque Fari Regatta begins in 2014 when a group of members of the organizes a regatta for classic boats called Centomiglia. Over the years the number of registered boats has increased and since 2014 the event took on its current name. The regatta is traditionally held during the first half of July when the thermals are strongest, with crews from all over the world.

The boats are moored in the ancient port of Cala di Palermo, from where the crews can enjoy the historical beauties of the historic center of Palermo as well as appreciate the quality of the bars and restaurants directly overlooking the pier promenade.

The regatta route is one of the most beautiful regatta courses in the Mediterranean. Along the 140 miles you cross some of the most evocative Marine Protected Areas in Sicily: Ustica, Egadi Islands, Zingaro-Scopello, Capo Gallo and Isola delle Femmine. Finally, the famous hospitality of Canottieri Palermo makes the Cinque Lighthouse Regatta an unmissable event for lovers of offshore sailing.

Over twenty boats on the starting line, crews from all over Italy and two authentic legends of world sailing ready to race in Sicilian waters. The twelfth edition of the Cinque Fari, organized by the Palermo Rowing Society, is preparing to put on a show from the 11th to 13 July with one of the most awaited races of the Italian Offshore Championship, the national offshore sailing circuit.

The event was presented at the headquarters of the Palermo Rowing Society in the presence of the president Pasquale Giardina, of the Councilor for Sport and Tourism of the Municipality of Palermo Alessandro Anello, of the councilor of the VII FIV Zone Alessandro Candela and of the sporting director of the organizing club Oscar Casagrande.

The departure will be on Saturday 11 July at 12 from Acqua dei Corsari (PA). The fleet will face a course of 140 miles that will take the crews to round the Ustica lighthouses, Porcelli Rock, San Vito Lo Capo and Capo Gallo before arriving in Mondello, expected between Sunday and Monday, with maximum time set at hours 12 on Monday.

The Cinque Fari is one of the four Sicilian regattas included in the calendar of the Italian Offshore Championship. Together with the test organized by Canottieri Palermo, Syracuse-Malta is also part of the national circuit, which will take place on the same weekend, the Round Aeolian Race and the prestigious Palermo-Montecarlo, among the great classics of Mediterranean offshore sailing. A calendar that confirms Sicily's role as one of the main reference points for Italian offshore.

The regatta confirms its national scope with the presence of coming crews, as well as from Sicily, from Liguria, Sardinia, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Campania.

Anemos II stands out among the members, the Farr 80 by Marco Bono (Sailing Society of Barcola and Grignano), with Mauro Pelaschier on board, historic helmsman of Azzurra in the America's Cup, and Tommaso Chieffi, one of the most successful Italian sailors ever with 29 world titles and numerous America's Cup campaigns.

Extra is also among the most anticipated boats 1 by Massimo Barranco, QQ7 by Michele Zucchero, winner of the Cinque Fari in 2021, Quattrogatti by Andrea Casini, current leader of Class A of the Italian Offshore Championship, and Cochina by Piergiorgio Fabbri, the boat with the highest number of participations in the history of the event.

The Double Handed category is also increasingly competitive, reserved for crews of two people. There will be six boats at the start, including the new Italian champions Joy and Melagodo, returning from the title won a few days ago in the waters of Palermo.

With a technical route among the lighthouses of the north-western coast of Sicily, a high-level fleet and the presence of great protagonists of world sailing, the Cinque Fari confirms itself as one of the most prestigious events on the Italian offshore calendar and one of the most fascinating regattas in the Mediterranean.
