Not a Goodbye, but thanks to #GIORGIOGOSETTI

All Italian cinema pays homage to #GIORGIOGOSETTI who passed away immaturely

The Funeral of GIORGIO GOSETTI, Journalist, movie critic, but above all the beating heart of the Authors' Days (autonomous section of the Venice Film Festival after having promulgated it for many years) they saw the participation of thousands of friends in the Church dedicated to Santa Teresa in Corso d'Italia in Rome, colleagues or simple acquaintances like us.

Directors like Dario Argento and Marco Bellocchio, Gianfranco Pannone and Costanza Quartiglio and many others (Sorry if not all are mentioned) participated in the final earthly farewell.

But also many journalists like Michele Anselmi, Fulvia Caprara, Francesco Gallo, Maurizio Di Rienzo and Anna Maria Pasetti and new talents like Chiara Nicoletti.

All the representatives of the two Associations of Italian journalists Pedro Armocida, Laura delli Colli and Cristiana Paterno were present at the tribute.

And again the representatives of yesterday's Festivals Roberto Cicutto and from overseas Antonio Monda and today Fabia Bettini with Gianluca Giannelli, the representatives of the film industry Giampaolo Letta and Andrea Occhipinti.

Obviously Anica too, Anec, 100 Authors together with all the other acronyms from the varied world of Italian Cinema participated en masse.

The assembly paid homage to a simple person, firm in his ideas and joyful as everyone remembered him during the celebration.

(ed: we mentioned who we met with clear eyes but hoping to continue on what Giorgio Gosetti gave us in his life and we therefore apologize to those who were not mentioned in this article).

We want to remember him, passed away suddenly and prematurely, those were the talents that the celebrant first and his friends and family highlighted, namely his joyfulness and smile.

Giorgio Gosetti did not spare himself to the end for the promotion of the seventh art: it is enough to remember the presentation the evening before his death at the Farnese cinema of a Dom doc film on the war in the former Yugoslavia as if it wanted to be a cry to the horror of the war that looms over the entire world.

What remains now for his many friends and connoisseurs is his friendly attitude towards everyone which is a lesson for everyone.

So THANK YOU for the many gifts we have received, perhaps unconsciously, through his life.

THANK YOU again dear #GIORGIOGOSETTI for serving your neighbor.

In myou will too but this is an extra push to follow in your footsteps and therefore not a goodbye but a thank you.

We want to imagine you going towards Infinity on your ever-present bicycle.

At the end we attach the SNCCI (National Syndicate of Italian Film Critics) it's at SIC (International Critics' Week) of which we are members wrote about him:

“It's difficult to think about the world of festivals, of reviews, of conversations, of the debates, of training, of non-fiction, of Italian journalism and film criticism without Giorgio Gosetti. Who was one of the most brilliant interpreters of all this 40 years. Native of Venice in 1956 he passed away this morning at dawn (6 February 2026 – ndr) , after completing, the 6 February, 70 years. Endowed with high culture, passionate and eclectic, dazzling intelligence and organizational ability of rare versatility, Gosetti was the inventor of festival models, starting from the first steps taken in his city where he worked at the Venice Film Festival as deputy director and responsible for some permanent activities. This was followed by the creation of the Noir in Festival in which the "genre" became a place of reflection and contamination, the creation of the Authors' Days – Venice Days modeled on the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes, the contribution to the birth of the Rome Film Festival and the direction, lasted years, of the House of Cinema in Villa Borghese. Gosetti has also played institutional cultural policy roles through the presidency of AFIC and the direction of Italia Cinema, without however ever setting aside writing and teaching, as well as journalism through ANSA.

He was passionate and exciting, contagious in his all-encompassing love for the art of cinema, sensitive, friendly and kind to everyone. For a time he was a member of ours Association, whose members today remember him with affection and esteem and, together with the International Critics' Week team, they become close to the family.”

Lastly, we would like to remind you that SCREEN Magazine also remembered him fondly (Screen article) and for us it is a source of pride.
