"JOURNALISM AND ETHICS": HIGHER EDUCATION COURSE PROPOSED AT #SERAPHICUM

"Journalism and ethics" is the advanced training course of the Pontifical Theological Faculty "San Bonaventura" Seraphicum, scheduled for the new academic year, with the participation of the Dicastery for Communication of the Holy See, The Osservatore Romano and the Group for permanent human and theatrical formation Eleusis.

The aim of the course is to offer an opportunity for training and specialization to aspiring journalists and communicators, freelance journalists and professionals, to those who work in ecclesiastical institutions and to all those who are interested in the world of communication and information, with particular reference to the issues of ethics and professional ethics.

The course, characterized by theoretical lessons and a laboratory style, it consists of three modules relating to the ethics of communication, journalism today and the relationship between journalism and ecclesial service. Lessons, provided in the present and online procedures, provide for a total of 120 hours from next 6 November to 28 May 2022 (8 hours to Saturday, twice a month), at the end of which the high training diploma in "Journalism and ethics" will be issued. The course, Furthermore, will give the right to obtain 15 University credits (CFU/ETCS), in addition to being accredited with the Order of Journalists.

The new formative proposal of the Seraphicum, of which Alfonso D’Alessio is responsible, diocesan presbyter, journalist and professor of the Faculty, will also see Paolo Ruffini in the teaching staff, Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication of the Holy See, the secretary of the same, Lucio adrian ruiz, the editorial director Andrea Tornielli, the director de The Osservatore Romano Andrea Monda and, yet, Alessandro Gisotti, Sergio Centofanti, Massimiliano Menichetti, Fabio Colagrande, the director of the CEI Social Communications Office Vincenzo Corrado, just to name a few.

“The course – explains fra Raffaele Di Muro, Dean of the Faculty – was born after an intense confrontation with those responsible for Vatican communication. The theme Journalism and Ethics it is very topical given that Pope Francis has spoken on the subject several times. For his part, the director of’Roman Observer, Andrea Monda, he has insisted a lot recently on truth and responsibility: his contributions have determined in me the desire to deepen and to make available a series of lessons designed to deal with these key subjects. The teaching staff is mainly made up of exponents from the world of Vatican publishing and it is an honor for our Faculty to host them”.
