With nearly 300 films shown in less than two weeks, of which 18 Piazza Grande and 15 in International Competition ends the adventure of Carlo Chatrian. Among the special guests of this year unforgettable salute to the Piazza di Ethan Hawke and Ted Hope, conversations with the audience of Meg Ryan, Bruno Dumont and the Kyle Cooper masterclass; the memory of Paolo Taviani to his brother Vittorio and the sympathy of Diego Abatantuono and Sandra Milo.

The same artistic director Carlo Chatrian, at the end of his mandate, he thus commented: Lived at very high temperatures, Locarno71 is been arich and diverse edition, come is in the tradition of a festival that is not afraid to approach extremes and to combine a smile with reflection. To guests who brought their experience and sympathy, new proposals have been added that have been well received, I think of the critical success of the film The flower or to the beautiful response of the public to the nocturnal projection of the television series by Bruno Dumont. In the aesthetic search for a form appropriate to a realityat that changes rapidly, where images seem omnipresent, the award-winning films tell of a world where lman is still the measure of all things. Juries awarded 12 women including two Swiss directors his 25 awards. The 71st edition confirmed that Locarno is a festival where the future is planned.

But here are the prizes specifically:

international Competition

Pardo doro a A LAND IMAGINED at YEO Siew Hua, Singapore / France / Netherlands that we have unfortunately lost.

Special Jury Prize a M di Yolande Zauberman, France that we loved so much.

Pardo for best direction a LATE TO DIE YOUNG di Dominga Sotomayor, Chile / Brazil / Argentina / Netherlands / Qatar on which we have some reservations as it is a cinematographic experimentation, but perhaps this will be the new international way of cinema.

Pardo for the best female interpretation a Andra Guţi per ALICE T. by Radu Muntean, Romania / France / Sweden. We must say that the actress, however, convinces the interpretation of the young protagonist of SIBEL it is at a higher level.

Leopard for the best male interpretation a KI Joobong per GANGBYUN HOTEL (Hotel by the River) at HONG Sangsoo, South Korea, demonstrating the international growth of Asian cinema.

Special mention a RAY & LIZ at Richard Billingham, UK

Unfortunately, we have not seen both films.

Unfortunately we have not seen the films and therefore we refer to the Jury's decision.

Award for a Debut

Swatch First Feature Award, Award for best first work a ALL IS WELL by Eva Trobisch, Germany. For us, the film presented in the Cineasti del Presente section went to 4th place preceded by the mysterious YESTERDAY (Here) di Bálint Bread.

Swatch Art Peace Hotel Award a RAndGŠYOUR MYŠWHAT (Acid Forest) di Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė, Lithuania. For us the prize was deserved by MY HOME, IN LIBYA by Martina Melilli, film that together with that of Costanza Quatriglio SEEMS MY SON it is not clear how they are out of competition.

Special mention to TIRSS, RIHLAT ALSOO'OUD ILA ALMAR'I (Erased, Ascent of the Invisible) in Ghassan Halwani, Lebanon. In reality, the subject matter is extremely noble, but the film from the cinematographic point of view is orphan and is based on a shot of a photo. Maybe this convinced the jurors but we liked the Italian film Dulcinea by Luca Ferri who reminds us so much of Maestro Marco Ferreri

Finally, the spectators' prizes were thus awarded:

UBS Audience Award a BLACKKKLANSMAN di Spike Lee, United States. A great film by a great director with great actors who had no competitors to overcome it.

Variety Piazza Grande Award a RUNNING WIND by Bettina Oberli, Switzerland / France. We liked the scratchy instead (as usual) Bruno Dumont who raged with the new series Coincoin AND ZINHUMAN who then masterfully explained in masterclass during the delivery of the prize Pardo donore Manor.

Finally an eye to the independent section of the Critics' Week which on the one hand has excited us and on the other disappointed.

In fact, we have seen the selection 4 films on the seven presented and in particular in order of liking:

DAYS OF MADNESS (DAYS OF MADNESS) di Damian Nenadić, Croatia/Slovenia

THE TIME FORWILLTS di François-Xavier Drouet, France

The APOLLO GAZA in Nicolas Wadimoff , Switzerland / Canada

KÖNNYAND LEAKISK (EASY LESSONS) di Dorothy mess, Hungary

The latter unfortunately shows a reality only for use and consumption of the regime of the current Leader ship of Orban.

The Critics' Week Award went to THE TIME FORWILLTS, while the Premiox Zonta Club Locarno He went to #FEMALEPLEASURE
