DOC YEAR ZERO 1st Edition: THE CINEMA OF THE NEW REAL WAY OF ITALIAN CINEMA

The Cultural Association recount CINEMA ETS with the support of the Cultural Center INSTITUT FRANÇAIS – CENTER ST-LOUIS Rome, DOC.IT sponsored by the Association and the Lazio Region, and in collaboration with the 'Istituto Rossellini and the High School of Rome presents Socrates:

DOC YEAR ZERO 1st Edition: THE CINEMA OF THE NEW REAL WAY OF ITALIAN CINEMA

The exhibition will take place throughout the day 16 April 2018 in space made available by the Cultural Center INSTITUT FRANÇAIS – CENTER SAINT-LOUIS Rome to reinvigorate the film-loving culture and "capture" other, young and no, the passion for the seventh art also talking about what happens around us.

PRESENTATION

After the Oscar nomination of Gianfranco Rosi documentary Fuocoammare, Golden Bear at the Berlinale 2016, There seems natural to inaugurate the first edition of the newly formed Association Cultural recount Cinema proposing to a program of documentaries members.

The so-called "real" Cinema is no longer considered a separate section of the film genres, but an integral and significant, with a recognizable role and no longer in the alternative. Increasingly in the prestigious International Festivals , which precisely Berlin, but Cannes, as well as the Venice Film Festival in Venice and the youngest of the Rome Film Festival, They are in fact taken into consideration documentaries, placing them in official competitions of genre films.

The choice fell on three Italian directors, one of which was recently nominated for a David and the Silver Ribbon. Marco Amenta speak. But we also chose two established directors from experience and success: Gianfranco Pannone and Mario Sesti. The first takes us gently, a small tribute to Italian documentary filmmaker par excellence: Hugh Gregory. The second already known and appreciated with its feature film offers us a gentle reminder of Lucio Dalla during the years of their long friendship

Alongside these medium and feature films would like to propose the latest works of young directors who have ventured into the production of short films and have excelled in recent demonstrations; this also in order to match the consolidated experience of the first youthful lusts of these, less known but no less interesting. The result is a composite review both styles for topics that we hope the approach emerging public "reality cinema".

Since we are at the beginning it seems appropriate the title DOC YEAR ZERO, which we hope will be auspicious for the Italian film industry. The peculiarity of the exhibition is also inviting the authors to a meeting with the audience in the hall where the film is the trait d 'union between the eye of the director and the viewer.

The MEDIUM and FILMS

Marco Amenta : Magic Island (2016). A documentary film made of small and large choices of direction and mounting attentions (Paola Casella da MyMOvies), winner at Salina Doc Fest.

Gianfranco Pannone: With Ugo (2016) Conversation with Hugh Gregory, one of the most versatile and restless tv filmmakers and men in our national scene. Presented at the 73rd Venice Film Festival .

Mario Sesti : Without Lucio.(2014). A survey sull'instancabile looking for an experimenter, lover of cinema and the performing arts. Libero Bizzarri Award for the best subject of the Italian section Doc 2015.

SHORT FILMS IN COMPETITION

Together with three medium length films and six short films will be presented by young emerging Italian directors participating in the Prize Best SHORT DOC 2018 Mario Matteucci.

Contemporary Urban Symphony where fluctuating memories blend with the sounds of the city and with the natural elements, tales of loss and love are reflected in the demolition and construction of buildings, Death and birth are next to each other as the darkest hours of the night and the first light of day, and the network of streets encapsulates all the possibilities that life could offer. Champ des Possibles is the portrait of a city and its emotional gear, the multitude of lives that move in its interior and of their stories, of destruction and regeneration processes in which neither the human nor the urban space can escape.

EX VOTE – YOU ALL KNOW. IGNORE ALL OF ME FABRIZIO paterniti HAMMER, 2016 , 13’

In a small town of Nebrodi, in Sicily, hundreds of faithful barefoot and dressed in white face the cold of winter invoking the grace of San Sebastiano. The votive ritual involves the community for generations.

IRREGULARS FABIO PALMIERI, 2015, 8’55’’

Rite of Passage Alessia Zampieri, 2015, 12′

The 66 ° 33 'parallel ideally marks the entrance to arctic landscape. After crossing the Arctic Circle, the perennial summer light contrasts with the endless winter night. The search for a woman in these cold lands intersects with the discovery of an unusual setting, where sunlight is almost absent.

A HELL Camilla Salvatore, 2016, 16’

In a small study of tattoos in the province of Naples you can meet many different people. On the surface it would seem a place as any, Yet in the most unexpected of places it hides a living microcosm. The practice of tattooing becomes the means to describe one aspect of that society: the gossip and the confessions of the tattoo artist and his customer delineate the character of each of the characters and help to recount the atmosphere. Fresco of a real place, with its myths and its rules, and a profession that so lends itself to create intimacy and to get dirty with pain, blood and people's stories.

 

PROGRAM

The screenings will take place at the headquarters of 'INSTITUT FRANÇAIS – CENTER SAINT-LOUIS (off Toniolo 20, Roma) the day of 16 April 2018 as per the following schedule:

  • Starts 11,00 and up to 13,30: Magic Island by Marco Amenta (74′) e Q&A with Director, preceded by short: ARDEIADE (12′), FIELD OF POSSIBLE (14′) and EX VOTE (12′)
  • from 13,30 all 14, 30 : break and refreshments in the foyer of the Center
  • from 14,30 and up to 17,00: WITHOUT LUCIO Mario Sesti (86′) e Q&A with Director preceded by courts: IRREGULARS (8′), RITE OF PASSAGE (12′) and HELL (16′)
  • from 17,00 all 18,00: WITH UGO (30′) Gianfranco Pannone followed by Q&A with Director
  • 18,00 – 19,00: Award ceremony MIGLIOR SHORT DOC 2018 and screening of the winning short film.
