With Hidden Pages continue projections of the Fifth Edition of The Documentary of the Month. The film, which premiered on the occasion of the week of Remembrance, There is a journey into the composition of the new novel by Francesca Melandri, one of the most interesting new voices of Italian literature. To write his latest book “Blood right” (Rizzoli, 2017), the writer confronts for the first time his father's inheritance, adhering to fascism during the two decades. A past that was unknown and that, through research in Italy and Ethiopia, daughter investigates and elaborates on his new novel, Finally confronting the removal of a country's memory and of its colonial past. A trip to the discovery of a father, different from what was believed. A journey into fascism, racism, in the removed memory. The unexpected discovery of a personal memory, which becomes the memory of our history.

The director tells Sabrina Varani: "The film was born on the wave of intuition, to tell what is behind the writing, of which the first inner material is made the words that make up a story. Mostly, I wanted to try to do it in retrospect, but while the novel is forming. Soon I was confronted with the enormity of the historical theme that Francesca had gone to touch, to a relatively recent period of which I like Italian I discovered completely unaware. Comparing them with my ignorance and understanding that it was not just my lack but a collective removal, I looked for a personal language to tell the story in a subjective, from the point of view that someone like me was discovering an uncomfortable past, shameful, whose parents or grandparents were accomplices and of which we have never talked. "

The writer Francesca Melandri, the protagonist of the documentary, observes: "The tragic misconceptions that a man has had in Youth are not the responsibility of his children. Just as the children of partisans have no merit of their heroism in the Resistance. Fascism and anti-fascism is not handed down by virtue of who knows who 'righteous blood'; each generation can only be measured on its own shares. But, that past removed the fathers, I can tell the children. This is the story that Sabrina, playing with the idea to follow between archives and Ethiopia – village where my father was never – It was found to film. And I willingly entrusted to his eyes, so sensitive and respectful. Because only a story back in the flow of consciousness can finally be left to go. "
